Well, where do I begin? How about the fact that this game looks like it’s among the best of this generation with stunning graphics and sublime voice acting. Red Dead Redemption 2 has been heading for the game of the year discussion before it was even released. No matter what I say, I can’t hide how much excitement and hype there is for Rockstar Studio’s newest game.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic Western about a band of outlaws who are trying to get by each day on the run, whether that’s from rival gangs, the dangerous wildlife in every area or simply the law itself. This year’s open world game that should be on everyone’s radar has the potential to offer players a massive variety of missions, quests and even gambling. There’s something here for every player and, if you like all of those things like I do, then this is a must-buy game.
Set in 1899 you will travel its world and fight to survive with your band of brothers and sisters to steal, kill and love. Many players will have different experiences with the game because of the choices you can make but one thing is for certain, no one can deny the beauty of the game; from the sunsets to the blizzards, the dedication to the tiniest detail from the developers at Rockstar Studios, like the blood that will stain your jacket until you actively have to go get it clean or changed for another jacket.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the first iconic game in 2010, giving fans another taste of the huge open world of the Wild West. The predecessors main protagonist is none other than John Marston (what a man! You’ll know what I mean if you’ve played the first one). He has been confirmed to make an appearance, which has had fans speculating about the role he will be playing – whether it’s big or small. Will our new character have an unsettling relationship with Marston or will they partner up and go on cute buddy train robberies and fishing trips (yes, you can go fishing in this game)? Whatever it is, we know that the fans who played the first one will get extremely excited when he makes his appearance.
Talking of our new protagonist, we set out into this huge world with danger ready to strike at every corner, therefore, we need someone who has wit and is sharp with their guns. We will jump straight into the game playing as our new main man – Arthur Morgan. He’s the right-hand man to the leader of your outlaw tribe – Butch van der Linde. This already tells us a lot about the role Morgan will play in the game. Being that close to the leader will give us lots of responsibilities, including missions, whether that’s all guns blazing or a stealth approach.
We know some facts about the game already and some of the options the game gives players when deciding what’s best for the camp. For example, someone might ask you to collect wood for upcoming fires that will be needed. You’ll have the choice to either accept this mundane but important request from your camp and set out with an axe, or you may opt to decline because it’s not a main mission and maybe you’ll choose your Morgan not to do the donkey-work for the camp which will lead into confrontations from your fellow outlaws (as they’re on the run, these men and women are not to be messed with). It’s small aspects like this in the game that gets me excited and raring to go because one small act has an impact of your character, your camp and the world.
One of my favourite aspects going into this game are the horses. I mean, who doesn’t love a horse? Your horse can be used to great effect in this game, for example, it’s the main mode of transportation around the world. Your horse carries all your inventory which are not on your person, which can include weapons, medicine and food. Rockstar have said you and your horse will create an unbreakable bond throughout the game and you’ll get to name and pet your own personal horse. You’ll have to acquire the horse yourself and then that will simply be your horse for the game.
Now, it’s really not as simple as that because here’s where the tears come out. Like all breathing living beings in the world everything must come to an end – (get ready) this includes (breath) your horse (that was painful). This being an action-adventure masterpiece, the reality and consequences will be life and death. If your horse isn’t treated right, or is always dirty and never eats, then the saddest thing in this game will inevitably come true. Especially going into gun fights, the worst can truly happen. I have named, and love, my horse already. I hope she lives a long happy life.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has hit stores today and it is undoubtedly going to be one hell of a ride. So saddle up and clean out your revolvers because this is happening, and I cannot wait! Happy hunting.
